Hi, I’m Liz

I’m a graphic designer currently based in Lawrence, Kansas. I enjoy traveling and have spent time in seven different countries. Languages intrigue me: I studied Hindi in high school, I am fluent in French and I’ve been learning phrases in Italian and Portuguese. In my free time, I enjoy being outside, riding my horse Smoky, reading, cooking, and working at building my Etsy business. Playing the piano is one of my favorite hobbies, though I no longer have a piano and I miss it greatly. I’m also involved with my church and like studying theological topics.

Thinker

I grew up in a family of engineers and, though I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an artist, I never could shake the analytical and technical nature that I inherited from them. A love for academics has contributed to my 3.85 grade point average at the University of Kansas. Research, analysis and troubleshooting come naturally to me. When it comes to critical thinking skills, I think I do a pretty good job. I’ve been told that I have stellar presentation and organizational skills: I can display and explain project concepts in a concise and easy-to-understand manner.

Nerd

When it comes to integrating design with technology or user interface, I’m the person nerdy enough to tackle the job and enjoy it.  Projects that both frustrate and challenge me are the ones that captivate my interest and keep me up past my strict bedtime. Typically that means treading the waters of web development – coding in HTML or CSS or pulling my hair out trying to figure out JavaScript.

Undesigner

I say I’m an “undesigner” because I have a very different approach and skillset than many designers. While my ISTJ personality is the least common in the field of graphic design, I believe that gives me a unique edge. I love interaction design – especially web and app design and development – and experience design.  Creating typefaces is quite fun, though I have yet to find my fonts useful. Craft is near and dear to my heart, so hands-on projects are some of my favorites.

About my mark

As someone who thinks technically, I often come at design as being a set of rules, or building blocks that go together as components that form a whole. This simple logo lockup is made up of “blocks” that are an E and an H. The colors also follow this simple idea of being built on top of each other, forming a new color.
